Consider it a sneak peak into what we’ve been doing lately. This is just one of four posters that The Enigmatic Monster Project has been working on. The series will be featured on 240seconds.com, which is set to launch this Canada Day. 240seconds will be featuring a Minimalist Monday segment on their site which a list of artists/designers will be contributing to. It’s quite exciting!

For now, have a Happy Canada Day!

Because Theo Monster watches you in your sleep. And then he bakes evil cookies when no one is watching. And when he’s done baking those vile cookies, he gives away free hugs, which is neither good nor bad  . . .

. . . And because we all downed a bottle or two of paranoia while we were putting the second issue together. Seriously, I’m not kidding you; there are more character deaths in this issue than there are in the first! And I’m pretty sure it wasn’t the horrible winter talking either . . .

So, you should obviously click the image to download our free .PDF of EMP: Issue 2!

Creature Feature: The Brothers Hildebrandt . . .

Gollum and the hobbits . . .Creature Feature: The Brothers Hildebrandt . . .

. . . And their little Lord of the Rings guidebook. If Troll 2 was an actual good movie it would probably look like this, with equal parts cheesiness and amazing goodness. The pictures themselves were published/created between 1975 and 1977, according to the book. The book itself was first published in 2002. For anyone interested, it’s titled: The Brothers Hildebrandt’s Lord of the Rings. Their work has appeared in other books as well, one of them being from the never-ending Shannara series by Terry Brooks. I suspect that the book was put together more to ride on the success of Peter Jackson’s trilogy than to get kids interested. That’s fine I suppose. Everyone has to eat, right?

The only thing wrong with the picture is the fell beast. Other than that, it's pretty awesome.

Feast your eyes on the sexy Balrog, the geeky wraith-king, and whatever is going on with Gollum and the hobbits. Yeah, I actually said all of that in one sentence. The quality of the work is by no means cheesy, make no mistake in that; the pictures are very photo-realistic, some of them bordering on surreal. The only thing  is that the depictions of the characters are somewhat dated, which isn’t a wrong thing in and of itself. We get to see someone else’s depictions of what the characters may have looked like from the series. I actually do enjoy looking at this book on occasion, even if it is for the sole purpose of having a good laugh.

If you’d like to see more of the pictures, you should consider buying this book. Fair warning: it’s small. Seriously.

That Balrog's so good looking he's wearing a hula skirt. Gandalf's a little jealous though . . . Oh my!

We hoped you enjoyed this latest instalment. A special thanks to the Brothers Hildebrandt. We only wish we were as cool as you.

Creature Feature: Iron Hans

Creature Feature: Iron Hans

Illustrated by none other than Marilee Heyer!

Here is another creature feature, and yet another look into my book collection! This book was once my dads, and then it just became my book, through mysterious means.

This book was also another source of inspiration for me, back when I was a young aspiring artist. Marilee Heyer has some fine work, let me tell you. I’d sit and stare at the pictures for hours on end, daydreaming of someday creating epic pieces just like her. The story itself was okay, but I think the book was more about her work anyways. There’s not much else for me to say, so just enjoy the art!

This Creature Feature has once again been brought to you by Penny C. A special thanks goes out to Marilee Heyer. Iron Hans is a Brothers Grimm fairy tale.

. . . Also doubling as a look into my book collection!

I said it, and now it’s happened. The second instalment of Creature Feature, and the first look into my book collection (for real this time). Before I continue I’d just like to mention that my book collection is not big. It’s just big enough. With that being said, I’d like to introduce you to the talent known as James Gurney

Book Cover: The King in Yellow

The King in YellowThe King in Yellow

As you all know I never finished the book; I got sick of reading one chapter per week and then making stuff up. Sometimes I wish Robert Chambers would have just written the play and allowed us to turn into blithering idiots. But he didn’t, and that begs the question: what’s the play about? What goes on, who exactly are the characters, and what on earth is the King in Yellow?

For real this time. What is this spectral creature? Who is this Bloody Mary of the day, and why is he reading romance novels? And where in the hell did he get that tattered cloak, the thrift shop? Who gave him the cash? What would the fox say?

So many questions! Continue reading

The Show Must Go On

That is correct, the show MUST go on! Four months is far too short a time for an undertaking such as this one; all of the work we did would just seem a waste if only a few people had a chance to see it.

Not only that, but we had so much fun making our 1st issue that we want to give you more! So here is our offer to you: you can give us inspiration for stories to write or you can send in something to Team Monster. Also, if there’s anything you believe will help make The Enigmatic Monster Project even better, we’re all up for hearing it!

Once again, thank you for all the likes, shares, and follows! Team Monster wouldn’t be here without all of you! Spread the word and help us with our monstrous undertaking!
